Dale,
A few years ago I saw a restored,documented (by build sheet) 72 SS 396. I
checked it out and it was correct right down to the carburetor casting
number, yet some bozo STILL put on the 396 badges! Guess they didn't know
when to quit.  Any number of resources will tell you what you confirmed.  No
engine badge unless it was a 454 car.
