Dale, Are you sure about there not being 396's in the '70? Reason I ask, I have read somewhere, that the early '70 model year still carried the 396, and that sometime around the end of December '69 - January '70 there was a change in the displacement to 402 cubic inches. Due to the amount of publicity promoting the SS396 through the years, there was no need to change it to the SS402. Just would not have the same "ring" to it.

Again, only the 454 got any engine size badging on the side in 72.
