I don't think the Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) is stamped on a '66 block. There is an engine code on the front passenger side pad showing assembly date and engine size/hp/etc. There are also casting numbers on the block, heads, intake, etc - see http://www.mortec.com for specifics - but the VIN? The VIN is what's on your title and the tag on the door - not even the cowl tag has the VIN. Putting the VIN on the block didn't start 'till 67 or '68 if what I read from other sources is correct.
I have a 67 Elky small block - no VIN on the engine code pad - and a 67 SS with a '69 big block - again no VIN on the engine code pad. Only plant build dates and engine codes here.
