i agree John, sounds like maybe the main power feed which splits off from the positive cable at the battery and goes to the fuse box........          just a thought,and where I would start............

Given that *everything* suddenly went dead, it sounds like a fusible link problem to me. There is no ground that would effect everything.

 

Time to break out the test light. Start at the battery because you know there is power there. Trace it to the fuse box and see if there is power there, etc.
