kyle
   Check on the passenger side  axle tube.  Look on the front facing surface, anywhere 
from 6" to 24" outside of center section.  The letters/numbers are only 3/16" tall and 
STRAMPED into the metal.  They are NOT cast into the housing.  You will need to clean 
any dirt or grease from the tube.  The stamping is similar (size) to the stamping for 
a motor .

I recently got a 12 bolt rear end for my 71 chevelle. Is there any
numbers stamped on it to identify what this rear end came out of? I'm
debating on either narrowing it or narrowing the ford 9 inch that i also
have.
