All good and valid points!
However, these suppliers are in business to make a living by supplying a
demand that GM more or less gave up on at one point. I can see their
side of this as well, now that they have a good business going and the
market shows an increase in demand, GM wants to step back in and not
only control it, but take a larger share than it did before. This not
only causes problems for the business owners, but I am sure will cause
prices to go up as well for us consumers.
While I think overall GM's getting into the restoration business is a
good thing for us in the long run, it would be nice if they would work
on things that are not available in NOS or reproduction, and let the
guys that paid for license fees continue to supply us buyers with
minimal restrictions. I think the "market" (ie us guys sharing info on
quality and service) will take care of itself.
I called my local GM dealer recently and asked what parts I can buy from
them for my 69. The answer was "not very many, if we haven't sold
anything in the past year we no longer stock it". Well that is where the
little guys make their living, by being a point of supply when GM no
longer wants to be. But, if they no longer want to supply it, then
license it and get out of the way.
P.S. I can't find a source for a plastic instrument panel face, nor can
I find the guages NOS or repro. Other than going digital, which in my
opinion is way too expensive, the only source is used. Are you listening
out there GM?

Besides, if you can say "licensed by GM" isn't the quality better? Don't
know, just asking. If I had a patent on something and someone wanted to
reproduce it years later(and I still owned the patent) I would want my
cut of the pie. And I would want to be sure you baked the pie the same
