I paid $500 for the 454 I currently have in my 70 and it was in pieces when I got it. I guess it was kind of a gutsy move seeing is how I took it without knowing if the block was cracked or not. It's a plain old 2 bolt out of a 73 Caprice built to my specs :-). I would say it's worth $500 if it doesn't run, and maybe $800 if it does run, regardless, extra 454's are nice to have, thinking of picking up a few myself.
