Hey Bob, I've always heard that Corvettes are subject to some sort of unusual frame rot (we are in Michigan, land of salt and water). I know nothing about them but a friend of mine says he puts one corner on a jack stand then jacks up the opposite corner in an effort to reveal "flex" that results from rot. Is any of this realistic?

BUY COSMETICS when buying a Corvette... I assume most of the readers in this newsgroup can turn a wrench and the C3 Corvette is a rather simple car..BUT you can burn money real fast when you start buying cosmetics... I own 5 Corvettes (64 72 76 79 & 95's) I also own a 68 SS 396 (clone but thats fine with me) Chevelle My son also owns a 68 SS (real) 396 Chevelle . my garages are filled with Chevelle parts and Corvette parts ..nothing new for a gear head who got his son hooked just as bad as the old man. I can tell you one thing Corvettes are just Chevys... But doing body work on them is more of a pain then with working with sheet metal.. As for body parts .. They are widely available but vary in quality even from the same vendors... replacing a front or rear bumper requires a hell of a lot of tweeking no matter where you get the replacement. . As for the price... ? well that all depends on the overall shape like any other car... 5K is about right for one needing a lot 12K is fine for one in great shape.. pretty big spread... The 75's thru 79's are all low HP cars BUT hell guys a SBC is still a SBC and getting my 76 (180 HP L48) to lay rubber in all 4 gears (ok it only chirps in 4th) was not a major expense... BUY COSMETICS when buying a Corvette... I said this before and I mean it...
