Very interesting. One thing I do know is that the El Camino / Wagon frame has a 4" longer wheelbase. So, the 17119 would be too short for an El Camino, and the part that is meant to go over the rear axle wouldn't clear. The 17120 kit can be made to fit the 2dr Chevelle / Malibu by cutting 4" off of the H-pipe.
The H-pipes are different because they are different lengths. The tailpipes are different because one is made to exit the side and the other the rear. The 11720 tailpipes also come with stainless steel tips already welded on. Therefore the only thing that the 11719 and 11720 have in common is the 50 series mufflers. John Nasta -----Original Message----- John/All, I was looking at the Flowmaster site and found a couple of interesting things. I would have thought that the kits from the engine back to the over-the-axle pipe would be the same and only the extensions (tail pipes) would be different. I put the 17119 kit on my 67 SS and had pipes to either come out behind the rear tire (like factory) or extend to the rear bumper. I wondered why the 17119 kit was so much less expensive than the 17120 (Elky/Wagon) kit. It seems that ~almost none~ of the pipes or mufflers are the same - not even the pipes going back to the rear axle. The 17119 kit comes with 30 series mufflers (52533) while the 17120 kit comes with 50 series mufflers (52558). The exhaust extension pipes, H-pipe, over-the-axle, everything is different. Is there that much difference between coupe/convertible and Elky/wagon frames that the front half of the exhaust is so different? Guess I just never noticed before. My first thought was the different mufflers made the difference in price. Not so. The 52533 mufflers in the less expensive kit ($299) are almost $30 more EACH (Summit price $109 for the muffler) than the 52558 mufflers in the more expensive ($329) kit (Summit price of $80 for the muffler). For $299 you get mufflers costing $218 and for $329 you get mufflers costing $160. Strange (???).
