The roof is a structural part of the car. Convertibles have fully boxed frames to make up for the rigidity that is lost when the roof is not there. If you cut the roof off a hardtop, the frame will probably sag.

Subject: [Chevelle-List] conv. tops

Do any of you know if a manual top can be set up to a power top without any alterations?,this would be on a 65' chevelle. I know you'd need to get all the hydraulics, pump & switches etc. but can it be bolted right up if you had all the materials? I was just wondering before I check out any more, there seems to be alot of them out there without power tops. Any pros or cons on power over manual?

     Thanks
