ahaaaaa  the quest " find a good one" for many many years the rochester Quadrajet, was know as the QuadraFLOP.
Truth being when they work they work well BUT when they have a problem $%$%#$%#$^#$^#$^
There are a few inherent problem with the Quadrajet carb. If your lucky enough to Find a Good Carb that's great. But if your want to run a Quadrajet and do't buy it from one of the Professional Performance carb rebuildshope. i.e Jet performance, the Carb shop or Pace.. the quadrajet can go from GREAT to as we called them Quadraflop in a hurry.
This is not to say you can't rebuild your own performance Quadrajet carb ,IMO a book by  Doug Roe  ( HP BOOKS #014) is the best all around Rochester cab book out there, it deals with ALL the major problems and easy fixes.
Is easy enough for a Dummy like me to understand and follow there fixes, there tuning and their basic  logic of this mis-understood carb.

Quadrajet is a name much like "positraction" to GM.  It designates the 4-bbl carb mainly made by Rochester - although Carter did get into the act for awhile.  It's a factory installed carb on most low to medium performance engines.  You don't say what year your 327 is, but I'd almost bet it was available with a 4-bbl carb and probably a Rochester Quadrajet at that.  If you already have a QJ intake (two small primarys and two huge secondaries), I'd simply go to a parts store and see what they have in a rebuilt model for your particular year.

If you can find a good one, they're as good (or better) on the street as any aftermarket carb.  GM used them for years on all models, not just Chevrolet.

I am also looking to get a new carb/intake to replace the stock rochester on my 327. It's gonna be a driver, so I'm thinking something economical as well. When all of you speak of quadrajets, is that any quadrajet in general, or specific brand/model?

Thanks,

GIno
