If the suffix codes are not correct for your 66 (and,
since there were no L79s that I or anyone else can find), the date code is
a kind of a moot point isn't it? Not arguing, just asking <g>.
Whether he "looked" up the numbers or not, I'd want to tear the engine apart and
find out what heads, what cam/lifters, etc. are used. The 327/350 also
probably had a different intake and carb than are on it now - just guessing
here. So to say it's a "350hp" engine is sort of a guess. It's like
all the LS-6 powered cars out there with different cams, roller rockers,
Edelbrock intakes and Edelbrock or Holley carbs, etc. It may have about
the same equipment as the LS6, but to say it is one is kind of
fudging.
What I'm saying is, if it doesn't have the original (or GM
equivalent) parts in it and on it, it's not a 327/350 anymore. If it's
coded "HCH" it might be worth something to a Corvette or Impala guy to be
"correct".
