Scott,
  Don't rip into the upholstery. If the build sheet is in the seats it
will be in the springs under the seat bottom or behind the plastic seat
backing (can take off with a screwdriver W/O damaging) They are not
between the upholstery and the padding, all else can be visualized from
the spots I described. Other places to look. Above glove box. In door
panels. In springs of back seat. Above gas tank (usually totally
trashed). Under carpeting. There is nothing in the VIN or the Trim plate
to prove or disprove a 69 Chevelle is an SS. Now here is the good part.
If you have the Protect-O-Plate it will confirm that your car is an SS.
