Not to start an argument, but the 1969 Service manual I have for mine has a VIN chart in it that shows whether or not the car is a true SS, or just a Malibu.  I offlined Scott and let him know I'd look in the manual for him tonight after work.  If anyone on here has the manual handy, it should be right in the front few pages.  Maybe I'm (read the service manual is) wrong.  John has alot more knowledge on this, but I thought maybe this was just a slip of the mind.  No hard feelings.  Mr. Nasta, sir, I don't mean to undermine you.    (Sarge <---Doesn't want to anger you, as I will most likely be purchasing from you one day in the future!)

Well, like I said, the VIN# proves nothing. Does the serial number on the block match, and does it have the correct engine for an SS? What does the protect-o-plate say? Those are the things I would look at before digging around for a build sheet.

John,
Thanks for getting back to me so quick. It's frustrating getting all the conflicting info on VIN# breakdowns, etc. Another source told me that you could not determine whether or not it was an SS or not from the VIN# in 1969 (He said that was 1969 only). He said the only way to prove it was an SS in 1969 was from the build sheet having the "Z 25" code on it. Anyway John, here is the VIN# 136379A353686, please let me know what you come up with. If you come to the conclusion that it isn't an SS, could you give me any theory as to how that happened. The car was driven off the showroom floor with all the appropriate SS markings and characteristics. When my grandfather bought it brand new, the dealership sold it as an SS. I'm just looking for a knowledgeable persons input on this. Thanks again John, I appreciate it.
