Hi Kerry,

No hard feelings at all. I have always been told that there was no official VIN designation for the SS in 1969, but that's just what I've always heard. Your book could very well be right. I'd be interested in seeing what it has to say. I have a 1969 Service Manual here, but if I crack the binding it's no longer saleable, so I try not to rip through the books I have here. Many of them are shrink-wrapped anyway. Let us know if you find any solid info.

Not to start an argument, but the 1969 Service manual I have for mine has a VIN chart in it that shows whether or not the car is a true SS, or just a Malibu.  I offlined Scott and let him know I'd look in the manual for him tonight after work.  If anyone on here has the manual handy, it should be right in the front few pages.  Maybe I'm (read the service manual is) wrong.  John has alot more knowledge on this, but I thought maybe this was just a slip of the mind.  No hard feelings.  Mr. Nasta, sir, I don't mean to undermine you.    (Sarge <---Doesn't want to anger you, as I will most likely be purchasing from you one day in the future!)
