My
question would be why would someone buy the car with all the hassle of obtaining
the proper paperwork to ever register the car unless they just want it for
parts. Different states have different laws about cars being reconstructed
without an original VIN to identify it as being stolen or not. There
are "hidden" places on the frame and body that your local sheriff, police or
highway patrol know about that have the VIN stamped and they can verify the car
as being a Malibu or SS and whether it has ever been reported
stolen.

Subject: [Chevelle-list] How can you tell?
I know someone who is selling a 66 chevelle that does not have a VIN plate, tag plate or title. He swears up and down that it is an original SS 4 speed. It does have the gages, the 12 bolt, all the emblems and big block springs and pedals. How do I know for sure that's its a true SS and not a clone? Is there a way to tell other then just going by the numbers. Also there is no engine or trans.
Thanks
