Al, I recently parted out a 67 SS. It had the VIN number stamped on the top of the chassis left rear frame rail. If the 66 has this as well the VIN will start with 138 if it is a true SS.

Subject: [Chevelle-list] How can you tell?

I know someone who is selling a 66 chevelle that does not have a VIN plate, tag plate or title. He swears up and down that it is an original SS 4 speed. It does have the gages, the 12 bolt, all the emblems and big block springs and pedals. How do I know for sure that's its a true SS and not a clone? Is there a way to tell other then just going by the numbers. Also there is no engine or trans.
Thanks
AL
