On my 69 and my 70, the number in which you are talking about on the frame rail, is the production sequence number or the last 6 digits of the VIN. These numbers are also stamped on the firewall behind the heater box. They will not tell you if it is an SS or not by the last 6 digits, unless pre 68 cars actually have the whole VIN stamped unlike their 68-72 counterparts.
