Why would they not heat treat them at the factory so there wouldn't be any worries about them after they were installed? Seems to me this would be something I would do if I was making them.

I'll chime in on this one.  I heard something about this last weekend.  Breaking in an engine will do something to coated headers.  I think it will fog them really quick if I remember correctly.  I bought a set of the Dynomax ceramic coated headers and put them on a fresh big block pushing over 500 HP, and they fogged within a week.  I would follow the directions and not use them on a fresh motor.
