I just did a cursory search on Bilstein and came up with
a BMW site that had a .PDF file of a Bilstein application guide. It
lists:
1. 68-72 (exc wagon) HD - front AK2070, rear
B46-0929
2. 67 exc wagon, exc HD rear - front AK2079, rear
AK2080
3. 64-66 (exc wagon) HD - front AK2079, rear
AK2080
Bilstein's own website shows:
1. 68-72 (exc wagon) - front AK2070, rear
B46-0929
2. 67 (exc wagon, HD rear) - front BE3-2972, rear
AK2080
3. 64-66 (exc wagon) - front BE3-2972, rear
AK2080
1. 68-72 (exc wagon) - front AK-2070, rear

3. 64-66 (exc wagon) HD - front AK2079, rear

The Bilstein site doesn't show the AK2079 and maybe it's
been replaced with the BE3-2972 (?).
Even the Hotchkis site shows the BE3-2972 for 64-67
fronts as well as 68-72 fronts. Yet, when you click the link for the
BE3-2972 shocks at Hotchkis, they are listed as fitting 67-81 F-body and 68-72
A-body. The Hotchkis site lists a B46-0929 for the rear on 64-88
A-body.
So you've got four different souces listing two
different front shocks for 64-67 (Hotchkis apparently not listing them
correctly at all) but all agree on the 68-72 fronts. Quite possibly, the
68-72 fronts will fit the 64-67 if you enlarge the shock diameter hole in the
lower A-arm. Being that you have a 68 suspension system, this wasn't a
problem.
I'm not trying to toss a wrench into what you're
offering, it's still a heck of a buy for a 68-72 Chevelle owner. Being
that I own a '67 and every mfg of shocks out there I checked (Koni,
Monroe, Hotchkis, Bilstein, plus upgrademotoring.com) show different front
shocks for 64-67 and 68-72, I'd be more than a little cautious buying them and
expecting them to be a direct bolt-on for a 64-67 A-body.

I don't know what listing you have; mine is from
Hotchkis several years ago, and your #s are not even shown there. I guess
it's possible that they've changed their nomenclature. Anyway, my shocks are
AK2070, NOT as you list AK2079. I don't know what application the 2079s are
for. My Hotchkis listing for my shocks, which are AK2070, is for front,
64-72 GM A-Body. I used them on my '68 Chevelle chassis and they fit and
worked fine.
Likewise, your # AK2080 is not shown on my listing and
is not what I have. I have B46-0929, rear, '64-'88 GM A-Body and '77-'90 GM
B-Body. I had them on my '68 Chevelle chassis. Other than the fact that they
were too stiff for my ultra light PU rear sprung weight, they fit
fine.
These shocks are as represented above. They are 100%, and as
Dale says, "a heck of a buy". I am only selling them since I am upgrading to
the more expensive QA1 coilover conversion and I don't want to store them.

I have a
set of hardly used Bilsteins for a GM A-Body '64-'72 for sale for $100
firm you pay shipping. I had them on my '32 Ford PU which uses a '68
Chevelle frame and chassis. This is a hobby car that never sees weather
and hardly gets driven. The rears have about 50 miles on them and the
fronts about 1000. They are for sale because the rear were way too stiff
for my PU, and I am upgrading to QA1 coilover conversions on the front.
The Hotchkis (where I bought them) #s are: AK2070 (front; $84.95/each),
and B460929 (rear; $54.95/each).
This is a great deal for anyone
who can use these shocks.
