At about center of the front bucket, push your back seat (part you sit on) down and back (toward the rear of the car), then up. You should also be able to see what is holding it in by looking under the front edge, again, about 12"-15" from the side panel.
Yes, they can be a pain...., and probably worse if you're a big guy. I have to get in the car, squeezed between the front seat and the back seat, and use my knees to push down and back to get mine out, or at least use my weight to push down and back.
