Infant car seats will use only a lap belt and will be rear facing until the
child is 1 year old. When used in a one piece lap / shoulder belt set up,
the seat will come with a clip that will take the shoulder part of the belt
and hold it in place with the lap portion. The now lap belt feeds through
the base of the infant seat. As your son or daughter grows out of the
infant seat and moves into a forward facing seat, I would recommend getting
a seat that comes with the 5 point harness. These seats still use the lap
belt only and are usually good up to 40lbs and still needing no
modifications to your Chevelle. After 40 ponds, child seats will only
come designed to use both lap and shoulder belt set ups. This forced me
into installing two shoulder belts for the rear seat of our '66 SS. I have
6 year old twins and have been through the full gamut of providing safe car
seat installations in the Chevelle.

Hello everyone,
I haven't contributed to the list for a while because my wife and I are
getting ready to have our first baby. I want to continue a family
tradition my dad inadvertently started. My first ride from the hospital
was in a red 66 Chevelle SS396. I want to continue this tradition by
bringing my wife and son home from the hospital in my red 70 Chevelle
SS454. I was wondering if anyone has ever installed the latch-lock system
in their cars for the new-style car seats. Does anyone know where I can
purchase a latch system that would fit without major modifications? I know
a welder who could make the hoods and bolt them to the body behind the seat
if necessary, but I would rather find a set that fits and bolt them in
without any permanent welding.
Does anyone have any experience in this arena? I doubt I'm the first guy
to try this endeavor.
