I also have a clear plastic inline filter. You shouldn't be losing pressure there. The carb bowl also shouldn't be bone dry unless you don't run it for weeks at a time. I pump mine twice, set the choke (manually), and off she goes every time. I'll install the cable one day, I swear.
If you can close your choke all the way and it doesn't make a difference, you probably have a vacuum leak. Check the vacuum hoses at the base of the carb. Could also be the gasket at the base of the carb. Try putting your hand over the carb to block the intake of air, and see if/when the engine stalls. If air from the top of the carb is significantly blocked and it's still running, it must be getting air from somewhere else. I do have aluminum wheels. I was figuring that the lug nuts got loose because it has been so cold lately. Thanks for the tip. I'll keep an eye on 'em. I'm also gonna hafta fix that heater core some day (soon would be good). Back to the carb, I have the same trouble regardless of how much I close the choke. I do have a no name inline filter, maybe it loses pressure there?
