no matter what you will need to pull the head, if its a blown gasket it should be noticeable, if not I'd recommend having the head magnafluxed.
good luck

Hi all,I have a family member who owns an 1983 Caprice (305 V8) that began using coolant.I couldnt find any external leaks, then checked the oil, it was milky in appearance and the level was over full indicating coolant getting into the oil and pan.Now what?I dont know if its a head gasket, cracked casting somewhere, or what.I'm sure there are a multitude of places for a leak to develop. It could be a simple gasket problem or something more severe.I dont have a clue as to how to diagnose this problem.Even if I tear the thing down, I wonder if I'll see any indications of where the leak is coming from. And, what could be the extent of engine damage with this thing being driven a couple weeks with watered down oil.Any suggestions would be appreciated on how to find the leak.As always thanks for your expertise.Bob Belz
