don’t know if this will help but have the guy who is having trouble with the HEI check that the plug in connection is not reversed. I bought a new billet HEI 6 months ago made in Mexico and Jose' stuffed the small lead wires (1 red, 1 black) that push up into the side of the dist. cap from the bottom. they are supposed to be a one way connector. I had a very similar problem until I noticed that black did not meet up with black & same thing with the red. I just unplugged the connector and installed it right. had to be done at the assembly plant because the box was still sealed when I got it. if you could forward this to him it might save him all the grief I went through before I found it.
