p.s. the idea of pulling the valve cover is also an excellent way to find out if you are really at TDC or 180 degrees out when the  distributor is firing on #1. A perfect way to end up 180 degrees out.   FYI you can also try rotating the wires on the distributor cap 180 degrees.
