Walt,
Where on the frame is the VIN stamped?

This stuff makes me nervous as hell. I wanted to look up previous
owners...even posted about it a couple years ago. A few of the
stories of cars being stolen after previous owners were contacted
about it stopped me from pursuing them. I am curious that my car has
a DUPLICATE VIN installed. It is noted on the title and is affixed
inside the door jamb of the car. STOLEN? I checked the couple other
spots adn found that the VIN matched the frame, firewall etc. wewww.
Sure wouldn't want someone else to claim my car!

So you're saying you bought the car many years ago and never put
it in your
name? Or does AAA offer tag and title services? I'm lost here.
When I first started my journey with my first Chevelle, one of the
ladies at
the tag office took me under her wings and provided me useful
info, such as
good sources for parts, a good paint man, etc. She also told me
this story
where someone bought a classic car for around $1000, then put
almost $25,000
into the restoration without ever putting the car into his own
name. The guy
that originally sold the car went and applied for a duplicate
title, saying
he lost his old one. When he got the fresh title, he called the
cops and
told them he took his classic car to the other guy for
restoration, and the
guy was refusing to return his car.
The rightful owner didn't have a bill of sale, and he couldn't
produce the
original title on the spot. Apparently there were numerous costs
and about
two years of lost time before the rightful owner got his car back.
The moral
of the story is, before you sink a nickel into your new Chevelle,
get it put
in your name.
Good luck to you Larry.
