I don't think you have anything to worry about. A couple of years ago some good ol boys here got busted for messing with VINs. One owned a junkyard that specialized in pickup trucks. He would go to the auctions and buy a totaled late model pickup and take it to his yard. His buddies would then go steal a similar truck and the wreck would sometimes be rebuilt, reregistered with a salvage title in a week!!! The wreck was quickly parted out and the frame destroyed. They got caught when one of their customers started customizing his pickup and none of the interior parts would fit, it seems the VIN said 2001 and the truck was actually a 2000. Sounds like your car went to the junkyard and your original VIN plate went to the stolen car, so your car should be in the clear.

I wanted to look up previous owners...even posted about it a couple years ago. A few of the stories of cars being stolen after previous owners were contacted about it stopped me from pursuing them. I am curious that my car has a DUPLICATE VIN installed. It is noted on the title and is affixed inside the door jamb of the car. STOLEN? I checked the couple other spots adn found that the VIN matched the frame, firewall etc. wewww. Sure wouldn't want someone else to claim my car!
