:-).  I think it's dumb luck actually,and being somewhat conservative on the gas, which for me at least can be difficult. 
I also some how managed to build the 325 HP 355 I dropped in my 86 Cutlass to have next to no emissions (0.0% CO, 8 ppm HC, 740 NOX).  That's why I like quadrajets :-D.  I ripped off all the computer crap, smog pump and all.  The only emission control device on the car are the catalytic converters.
