American Racing's website says that and I'm wondering if that's a misprint because it's incorrect if you really think about it. Backspace measured from the flange to the outer lip of the wheel is a more accurate way of determining clearance. Otherwise,you're not accounting for the wheel lip thickness. The rear wheels on my 69 Elky are 17x13's with 7.25" backspacing. I ordered them with those measurements and checked those figures before mounting. From mounting flange to outer wheel lip,they measured right at 7.25". If PS Engineering measured them the same way American says on their website,my wheels would not measured that.

The backspace on a wheel is measured from the inside flange (where the wheel mounts to the brake drum or rotor) to the INSIDE of the bead mounting location for the inside of the wheel.  The basically is the measurement from the mounting flange to where the inner bead would rest.

Subject: Re: [Chevelle-list] Tire - Wheel Backspacing

Question;

Would someone on the list mind explaining wheel / tire backspacing? Remember on the Chevelle I had in high school when I put bigger tires on I had scraping issues. Especially on the rear. Been reading some posts on Team Chevelle and everyone talks about wheel and tire combinations in conjunction with backspacing. Is this some new stuff? I will probably be changing the tires and or wheels on the car I bought so I though I would start asking now. I believe the wheels on the car now are the stock 14" type SS wheel.

Thanks
