I got the
numbers 398557 off the intake that is currently on my '70. These were large
numbers between the distributor and the carb. I assumed they are the part
number, but maybe not. This engine is supposed to be out of a 1976 Corvette, so
it’s possible that it's the original intake and/or carb from that car. It is a
dual plane spreadbore 4bbl intake w/ an old Q-jet on it. I'm wondering if it's
worth using or if it has some serious resale value to a Corvette enthusiast. I
haven't gotten the numbers off the carb yet but I did bring it home. It needs a
rebuild but again might be of value to someone who is looking for that
particular carb#. If it is a 1976 Corvette carb, it should be a 17056??, with
the last 2 digits being 0, 1, or 2 for Chevrolet, and some other final number
depending on the transmission of the original car. For that matter, anyone who wants this engine and is willing
to give me the $300 core charge and pick it up in NJ can have it. It’s a mess
though. It's been seized and sitting for a long time, but if you happen to be looking
for this casting number... Also, is it just the 12 bolts around the outside that hold
the intake manifold on? I have them all out and it still seems to be very tightly
glued in place. A public thank you to Tom who came down with his super
cherry picker and helped me pull the engine & tranny together w/o even
taking the hood off the car. Nice. BTW Tom, I got the oil pan off and it’s a 2-bolt main. You wouldn’t
believe the sludge that was in that pan. Well, maybe you would. John Nasta |
