I adjusted all the valves today & the ticking disappeared (but returned
slightly after a while).
I think it's the "lock nut" on #8 cylinder that's unthreading it self.
Even though I thought it was #4's valve that was the problem.
I dont know why the sound dissapears when i disconnect #4's plug!!??
Maybe both of them are causing noise?

I did the stetoscope thang and located the "source" to be under the valve
cover!
No arching from the ignition cables found but I'll swap the plug with
another cylinder to rule out cracked spark plug insulation.
A fellow gear head on a Swedish list thought it might be a stuck valve at
#4?
I'll check and adjust the valve lash on all cylinders today to rule that
out.

The hose works like a mechanics stethoscope. Any sound made near the end
if the hose will be transmitted right to your ear. It makes it really
easy to localize any engine sound.
I guess I left out the part where you have one end of the tube up to your
ear and the other end all around the header flange and tubes!

I guess I'm missing something. How does that find the leak?

Quoting Brad Waller <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>:

That can be a leak at the header. With no spark, there is no
explosion, and
no big puff out the header. When the noise is happening, put a few
foot
long piece of heater hose or similar tubing all around the header
flange and
follow that pipe to the collector. If there is an exhaust leak, you
can
find it that way really easily. I have had them before and thought it
was a
lifter until I found the header leak.
