Try http://chevelleengineer.home.comcast.net/speedo.htm for some very good information on speedometer gear selections. Never heard of a 3.49 gear ratio but 3.31s were standard I believe. Check http://www.chevellestuff.com/generic/axlecodes.htm near the bottom of the page for Chevrolet gear sets.
