I've done chrome powdercoating in my garage and wasn't impressed with the
results. Of course, there's probably 500 different kinds of chrome powder, so
I'd suggest going to the place that you're considering having do the work and
ask to see color cards, just as you would with paint at a body shop. If you
find a chrome powder that you like, take them a small bracket or some other
miscellaneous piece and have them do it to see how it looks once you get it
home.

Advanced doesn't plate wheels. Have you ever seen chrome powder coat? A place
in Louisville will do it for 50-75 per wheel. I said sand out of habit.
Thankfully it was soda.

   Thanks, Brian

Oof. Sand blasted or media blasted? Sand is pretty rough on aluminum, I
hate to tell you but you might have only added more work for whoever plates
them.

Thanks, Dan. They were polished originally. I have sandblasted and scotch
brited them. Do you have a site/number for Advanced? I live in KY so that would
not be too far to investigate.

Aluminum is tricky to chrome in and of itself, and having all the
recesses that a wheel does, would make it even more difficult.

That being said, with proper prep and expertise, a very nice result can
be obtained. But with that prep and expertise comes a price tag which might
just make rechroming an un-economical choice.

If you do decide to get them done, you cannot go wrong with the quality
of the work that comes out of Advanced Plating in Nashville TN.

        Good luck.

Hi guys. I have a set of aluminum wheels I am considering having
chromed. Anyone have any experiences with this? (good/bad). Also, any company
recommendations?

           Thanks, Brian
