The flat area goes up into the frame. If you look in the cup area of the lower
control arm, you will see an indentation for the end of the last coil on the
spring.

  Subject: [Chevelle-list] Coil Spring Question

Hey I have a dumb question, I pulled the front coil springs and upper and
lower control arms out of the 71 the other day to sandblast and install new
bushings and ball joints. Now that the paint is dry I'm going to put it all
back togather tomorrow evening. So now for the question.... which way is up for
the dang spring? I think it's the flat side goes up into the pocket and the
round side goes into the A-arm in the pocket. Anyway thanks in advance.
