Hi Venus, I strongly recommend you get yourself a copy of "How to Housebreak Your Dog in 7 Days" which can be found at amazon.com. When I checked, they had a used version available for a little over $6.00 You could try other bookstores or your local library. I could write pages on the best way to go about housetraining your dog, but the author does it so much better than I could ever hope to. If you don't want to spend the money on a book, you can find lots of free help with housetraining by entering "housebreak dog" into a search engine such as google.com.   I'm no expert, but I've owned many, many dogs over the years and I've learned some things that work and some things that don't. Since your chi was already 2 1/2 when you got him, he may have been trained wrong, abused or not trained at all.   Don't stick his nose in it. Don't let him roam the house unattended. If you use google to find housetraining hints and/or get the book I recommended, you'll have all the information you need. Don't get discouraged. Your dog has had 2 1/2 years to learn bad habits.
