There is a "double coat" There are a couple of different terms used by
different people, but this is the term I use. Normally, you see this in the
long haired....you can see the difference in a lc chi with a thin coat and a
lc chi with a thick coat. This is because the thick coat has a "double coat"
You can see this in the short haired as well, although it is more rare. Not
really sure WHY some have the DC, but it is genetic and pups can be bred to
have either a standard or a double coat. The dc is most obvious on the
stomach area.
