Yep you are correct never, never, never, feed cooked bones. I do not even let them nibble on raw bones after a day or two. They start to dry out and I am not sure what happens once they are dry. So I only offer fresh raw bones both chicken and beef and throw them away after a day or so.
Good info to pass on Marsha,

I wont even begin to get into the raw, the bones, ect., debate....I have never been that picky about the food my dogs eat dog food wise (I know, I'm a bad momma, but if they are happy with it, I am happy). I do not feed any table scraps to my chis but my outside dogs get all the left overs. HOWEVER, on the bone topic, since a lot of people feed their chis chicken, I felt a need to point out that cooked chicken bones are very fragile and very likely to splinter, so if you feed chicken bones (don't know about beef, hog ect.) make sure they are NOT cooked. Chris...input on this? I certainly don't claim to be a food expert or even very knowledgeable, but even before the day when people were so picky about their dog's food, we were warned not to give dogs cooked chicken bones.Marsha----- Original Message -----From: Jen-CASent: Tuesday, April 11, 2006 2:14 PMSubject: Re: [Chihuahuas] Re: feeding raw/bad breathOnly cooked bones. The bones are like rubber if you ever see any in poop.

False: Bones won't splinter on a full stomach.
Completely untrue! Many times jagged chunks of bone do their damage in
the throat. Dogs have died from choking on bones. And, regarding the
stomach, bones do not pass as quickly as the food. Digested food does
not protect the lining of the stomach from sharp objects. Wolves eat
fur, cartilage and muscle meat along with the bones which helps
prevent injury from fragments. I'm not recommending you feed your dog
bones in this manner, but it should be noted that your dog doesn't
have this advantage on the barf diet. Click here to read testimonies
about dogs harmed by raw bones".
