Hi Jaye,

My barking solution took a fair bit of time to work out, but the
end results have been very good.

When Nubi first arrived, he would not bark at all, and then all of a
sudden, he was barking at everything. I read somewhere that in order
to teach a dog not to do something, you have to teach them to do
that same something on command. It took me many weeks to teach Nubi
to 'speak', but once he knew what that meant, it became easier to
teach him 'no speak' or 'no bark'. I accompany the 'no bark' with a
loud clap to get his attention if he is barking at nothing in
particular or someone walking by our house.

When the barking is a warning that someone is in the driveway, or to
alert me to something, I let him have a few barks, show him that I
can see what he wants to warn me about, and then I tell him 'okay'
and 'enough'.

Like I said, it takes a fair bit of time and consistency to play
this process out, but the effects are great.

I tried the bark collar that emits the high frequency noise, and he
didn't respond at all. The water made him upset, although both of
these things works very well for my mini pin.

good luck

DD.

even me when I first come home. I can't train Mija like other dogs
because of her disablity like sit stay and stuff she can't do any
of those things but I sure would like to somehow lessen her barking
a tad bit. She was abused before she came to me and I just want to
be very careful that she doesn't think I would ever be mean to her.
When she first came to my home she would cower down and just shack I
would pick her up and hug and kiss her and tell her she was safe it
was ok and a 1 year and 1/2 later she seems to not remember what had
happened to her. So I don't want to do anything at all to her to
make her think I broke my promise to keep her safe forever. So if
anyone has any good ideas please let me know whats the best way to
go about teaching her to not bark so much?
