Hello Everyone!
I'm new to the group and wanted to send a hello message. I'm also a
proud new parent of a Chihuahua! I adopted Ava, a 2 yr old long
hair, from the Atlanta Humane Society about 2 weeks ago and couldn't
be happier with her. She quickly made herself at home and loves
meeting new people (much to my surprise!). After researching the
breed I had assumed that she wouldn't be this socialble, but she
really does love new people and dogs!
She is alreay best buds with my 2 yr old male cat, named Monkey.
They are so much fun to watch play and take turns chasing each other
through the house.
I did have a quick question to all of the experienced Chihuahua
owners out there. I've noticed that Ava seems to almost panic when
she's suddenly not the center of attention. (She's very needy
anyway, and almost demands that you be holding her, petting her, or
playing with her at all times that you're home). But here's an
example of what I'm saying about the panic thing - I'll be sitting
on the couch with my boyfriend, Ava will be sitting in my lap
receiving lots of attention and belly rubs, etc. Then I'll reach
over to get a drink of my water or hold my boyfriend's hand and Ava
will start to breath really heavily and seem like she's freaking
out... all this stops the moment I start petting her again. It's
cute when I move my hand over to my boyfriend's hand, and off of
Ava, because she will smack my hand with her paw as if to say "hey!
get back to petting me!" but I'm mildly concerned about the heavy
breathing thing that she does. It sounds kind of labored... but she
doesn't start coughing.
Is this normal for chihuahuas?
Thanks everyone! & I'm very excited to be apart of this group! I
don't think I could have resuced a better dog, Ava is wonderful!
I'll post a picture soon :)
