Dogs in general are considered adults at the age of 1 year.
However, the actual age of which a dog's personality, so to speak, changes from
that puppy one to the mature adult one, varies by breed. Larger breeds tend to
physically mature slower and mentally mature faster while smaller breeds tend to
do just the opposite. A large breed may continue to grow for up to a year and a
half, while a chi is probably as big as it is gonna get by the time it is a year
old. At the same time, a large breed has more maturity at a younger age while a
chi can often stay in that puppy stage for 18 months or more...
