I don't think it is necessary to get rid of the pup unless you
just want to, but I do think you need to help the older chi establish himself as
the alpha between the two. That is only fair to him. Also, since he is older,
don't allow the pup to aggravate him all the time. Basically it is the same as
with kids...teach the pup to respect his elders. Give the older one more
freedoms, ect and allow the pup to play with him only when he wants to, not when
the pup wants to. Just do what you can to make both dogs understand that the
older one has priority so to speak. This will not bother the pup, the are
resilient just as kids are, but it will go a long way in helping the older one
feel secure of his standing in the household.
Probably the reason he didn't have a problem with your
daughters dog was because one it was more mature, thus more on his level, and
two, it wasn't YOUR dog, thus not replacing him.
