You are probably going to need to replace that carpet. They will always
smell it if it has been there for a while. I have found that a small dog
like chi's and other puppies do better if they are on a potty schedule. It
can be a pain but so worth it. But, seriously the carpet is a lost cause
because if the pee has been there for a while, or they pee there all the
time then it is probably in the padding underneath the carpet also. We went
through this years ago with another animal.

Subject: [Chihuahuas] Potty training

I was wondering how you all have potty trained your Chi's. I live in
an apartment and during the day while I'm gone I keep them in the
kitchen with potty pads and they go on those. And they go to the
bathroom when I take them outside. When I'm at home, I put pee pads on
the carpet and they go on those 60% of the time. But my carpet is
ruined from 6 months worth of them peeing on it, so the scent is stuck
in the carpet. I don't know if I'll ever get them potty trained! Any
suggestions?
