I'm familiarized with vet laws, you can SUE the vet for what he did. He went to
vet school at least 8 yrs to KNOW what's wrong and not ASSUME it!!!!!!!! Go to
other vet and have him checked, do not trust this man/lady anymore after all
he/she already showed how incompetent is. Did your dog drink liquids??? If he
did then he must be eliminating them.......if he drank water and is not
eliminating them go to other vet ASAP and talk to your lawyer too. God! that
made me mad, poor thing. . . sue, sue sue sue sue sue sue.

Subject: [Chihuahuas] Dew Claw Messup Advice Please

Hi Everyone,
We had our 6 month old LH chi Teddy neutered today. They were also
going to remove a small rear dewclaw and check his teeth. When I
picked him up I saw that he had stitches on his front left paw and he
was licking it. They had been unable to find the rear dewclaw which
was tiny so they assumed I meant the front left dew claw which I had
not wanted removed.

When I pointed out the back dewclaw to the technician they took him
back and quickly removed that as it was tiny. It required no
anesthesia.

My concern is Teddy cannot stand. He keeps his front left paw off
the ground. It has been 10 hours since his surgery and he hasn't
urinated since we brought him home as he cannot stand.

I took him back to the vet as soon as I realized he couldn't stand
and she said he was just a tender soul and preferred to be held than
to stand on his paw when it hurt.

I am very worried that there was some kind of damage to his foot.
Have the rest of you had experience with dew claw removal? He is
very sleepy still and we did get him to eat a little dinner but other
than that he has been sleeping since we brought him home 6 hours ago.

Am I panicking for no reason?

What experience have you all had with dew claw removal?
Thanks,
Jean
