For me, that was the deciding factor on getting two chis.  I didn't 
think it was fair for me to leave Belle home alone all day while I 
was at work.  So, we adopted her sister, Pita.  Now, they have each 
other to play with when we're not home.  Sounds like your chi may be 
lonely at home.  Separation anxiety maybe???
