I am with you on this one. If they can't bite when not at play they should
not be biting when they are playing. They will just get confused about the
difference. Bad habits in dogs need to be nipped in the bud asap. You will
enjoy them much much more.
Bogie was real bad about this when he was the same age as Zoe. When he would
bite on our hands we would draw the hand into a fist until he started
licking then we would praise him. Sometimes i would mist him in the face
with a spray from the spray bottle and sometimes I would spray bitter apple
on my hands. Once he learned that we were not going to accept that biting,
then he quit doing it. If he ever does it now all it takes is a stern no and
he stops. They learn fast because they want to please more than anything.
Just remember who is boss.

If the pup is allowed to play bite ect when you are in the mood, but then
not allowed to when you are not, it will only confuse him. If a behavior is
ever disallowed, then it should be disallowed at all times.

Subject: [Chihuahuas] Tired of being a chew toy

Hello all,
I have a question. My 10 week old chi Zoe is a MAJOR biter. I am sure
that it because she is teething or just being playful, but it hurts!!
When I take her to bed at night she really goes at me. If I turn my
back on her she will sink her teeth into the back of my head or my
back. Is there anyway I can teach her not to chew on me? She has many
chew toys, but she prefers to chew on me at all times. Thank you so
much!!
Melissa
