MY SD Joe was a "hotdog" chi as well. 99% of his diet was hot dogs....the other percent was whatever he snacked on while we were snacking. Of course I have enough common sense to know that this was probably the absolute worst diet I could have given him, but hey, he was top dog and got whatever he wanted, lol!! In credit to me, he did live to be almost 16 years old, but the reality of it is, his health was not as it should have been. I can't honestly say I regret feeding him the dogs, because that is what made him happy and his happiness was my priority. But, I did learn from the experience, and one thing I learned is that they can not crave what they never experience. These days, my dogs do not get any human food at all. I do not allow any table snacks being given. That doesn't mean everyone respects my wishes, lol.....my mom is the worst and will give them bites of everything, but I do make a conscious effort to not allow them any human foods.
That said, when the food recall came out, I was TERRIFIED!!! I decided to feed only a home made meal until they got the mess straightened out. The results basically was that my dogs didn't eat much at all for 3 weeks because they were not interested in the human food. The first day or two, it was a treat and they lapped it up, but after that, they craved what they were use to eating....their dog food. Marsha Do not tell God how big your storm is. Would you have to consider a dog to be a canabile if it eats hot-dogs? Once in a vey great while I try to give my PeeWee some chicken. He doesn't like it, not at all. But maybe if I was the dog I would't like it also. I mean chicken would seem to be for cats...
