I am soo sorry you are in this situation. I have asked many respected
theologians about God's position on animals and their presence in heaven.
Animals are His creatures. There is scriptural Biblical evidence that animal
are in heaven. No specific scripture passage exists that pets are in heaven.
If God would include horses for riding, why wouldn't He include dogs? Dogs are
the creatures that most closely exemplify God's unconditional love for us.
IMO, it doesnt make sense for Him to exclude dogs. I do believe our canine
friends who have gone no before us, will be there. All but one of the
theologians I have spoken with over the years have said they personally believe
that dogs go to heaven too, but inarguable biblical evidence is just not there.
To me, it is inconsistent with who God is, to not allow dogs to go to heaven.
For many of us humans, heaven would not be paradise without dogs. JMO.

You gave your bassett friend two more years of good life, that he may not
have had without you. Don't beat yourself up for doing what needs to be done.
