*big hugs* I know it's such a hard decision to make.  But like someone else
said, you have given him two happy years in a loving home.  I believe that
animals and their people have an unspoken bond and he'll know that you are
doing what's best for him.
The procedure is pretty quick, all they do is give an overdose of the same
anaesthesia they use for surgeries.  All he'll feel is the prick of the
needle and he'll fall asleep.
