I'm so scared of anything "dog food" I just make my own. Its easy, cheaper and I know whats in it. I only have one lil chi so I make this bone recipe and freeze half as it takes awhile to get through them. When we have "baking night" he sits by the oven and wants more than he knows he should get...(heck their fresh and warm just like cookies!) LOL
I spometimes give cheese when I need to administer medicine and putting it in the food makes him snub it. Often put in some mozzarela, even the horriblest tasting herbs can be swallowed. Heres two recipes you can make: The liver treats are really only for training as they are rich and I only let him have two or three small biscuits a day. Also watch out for greenies as I heard they can bunch in intestines. Hope this helps. BISCUITS AND “LI-VAH” TREATS Here’s a recipe (probably from this forum) for biscuits. I make it all and freeze half for another time. Sometimes I need to bake them longer (weird oven) but being careful to not burn them while making sure they are crunchy. mix: 1/2 cup oatmeal 2.5 cups whole wheat flour 1 egg 1/4 cup canola oil 1/2 cup water 4 TB molasses mix it up and roll it out thin (1/4" + or so) and either cut out shapes (its sticky so not so easy) or be lazy like me and put it on the cookie sheet or tin foil and cut strips in the dough. small enough to turn over easily or what you like for your dog. bake at 350 for ten minutes (the original recipe said) but in my oven I turn them over at ten minutes and watch them closely after that because I want them to be more like milk bones (crunchy) but not to burn. Liver Treats (don't use too often but great for training!) Wash liver place in a saucepan with water to cover (probably good for defrosting if nec.) Boil for 4 minutes then drain and put in cold water cutting into bite size pieces, when cool. Then put them on a lined cookie sheet (I use tinfoil) and bake @200 for two hours until dried out. If kept in covered container in refrigerator they can last several months. best, michelle and henry in the beautiful Catskill Mountains, NY -----Original Message----- From: Teacher Bunny <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: [email protected] Sent: Thu, 27 Sep 2007 6:20 pm Subject: [Chihuahuas] best treats ________________________________________________________________________ Email and AIM finally together.
